Red & Rum, Thursday August 20th as part of the Dine Dunedin festival
We are very excited to host this one off special event for the Dine Dunedin festival. This night runs from 6pm until approximately 11pm, and includes transportation on the Albatross express, 5 course dinner, one complimentary beverage on arrival, entertainment and safe transport home, all based around the history of the Portobello Hotel.
Travel back in time for a unique experience at the historic Portobello Hotel & Bistro. Just like back in the day, begin your journey to the peninsula via a special “ferry” trip - leaving from the harbour basin. The Albatross Express, captained by Dunedin’s own “penguin dun-dee” Perry Reid of Natures Wonders, will transport you down the harbour, with two viewing decks to experience the beautiful scenery. The Albatross express is licensed for refreshments during your trip and has two on board toilets for your convenience and will be departing the harbour basin at 6pm
Arriving at the Portobello jetty, a short bus trip will complete your journey to the Portobello Hotel & Bistro. On arrival at the hotel choose a red wine or rum cocktail and settle in for a specially created 5-course set menu of classic kiwi dishes with modern twists. The hotel has made available for purchase its rum and red wine collection to compliment your experience.
We are very excited to have the Lion Nathan spirit ambassador as our guest bartender and he will be creating unique rum cocktails for the evening.
Throughout the evening you’ll be entertained with anecdotes of debauchery, misfortune and historical tales about the hotel and surrounding area, retold by some of the pub’s special local characters. Safe transport home will be supplied at the end of the evening via the comfort of coaches provided by Natures Wonders.
